Breeds of horse #1 QH
There are many different breeds of horse, just like there are for Cats and Dogs. One of the most popular breeds is the Quarter horse. Originating in the Americas, the Quarter Horse, is a versatile sturdy, "cow pony". The QH is called so, because it used to be able to run short distances, a quarter of a mile faster than any other horse on the planet. Now, due to inbreeding, that is ever so increasingly impossible. There are some distinguishable qualities to the QH. They have muscular haunches, with a deep chest, and sturdy legs. The neck is thick and slender. They can range from a height of around 14.2Hh, to 16Hh. (Hh is hands high. It is a measurement used to measure the height of a horse. Horses are measured form their withers. ((top of shoulder where it connects to the neck)) 1Hh= four inches or 10.16cm) The QH is used mostly in western riding (i.e. Roping, Barrels, etc.) There are seventeen (17) nationally recognized colours that the QH can come in the following colours:
Shades of grey, Black, Bay, Sorrel, Chestnut, Brown, Buckskin, Palomino, Dun, Grullo, Red dun, Blue roan, Red roan, Cremello, Perlino, "White" and Bay roan.
I put the White in quotations because White is not a colour. You can get albino horses, or very light grey, but in the horse world there is no such colour label as "White."
Here are some photos of the QH :
