Introduction
My love of horses started when I was about six years old. My father and I went to an Indigo book store, and seeing a shiny, gold book, I asked him to buy it. It was Black Beauty. That night at bed time, he read some of it to me. I was fascinated at the different perspectives, and ways horses see the world around us. I cried for Ginger, felt Blackie's pain, and fell in love with the kindness and loyalty of him. I wanted my very own Beauty.
When I had turned eight years old, I started riding at a bare-back horse riding facility. ( Bare back is with-out a saddle or a pad of any kind, and only a halter and detachable reins) The first horse I rode was named Booey. He was a middle aged grey Arabian Gelding. He was very understanding of my lack of horsemanship knowledge, immense giddiness, and awe of his power. He was kind and very gentle. I had found my Beauty. We had many a fun rides together! The first time I fell off, was both of our faults... mainly mine, but when he noticed that the weight off of his back was gone, he trotted over to me, and nuzzled me to make me feel better. He neighed out too until the other riders got off their horses to help.
Two years ago, we had to move, so now I ride English. It's not the same, but as long as I am with a horse I am happy. (I'd rather muck out a stall than clean my own room!)
As I got older I managed to cram everything I could into my brain about horses. Breeds, colours, points on a horse, vet knowledge, care, feeding etc. I really enjoy horses and this blog will be about my life with them, and their stories.
Booey died last year. Rest in peace old friend.
